Today I attended the opening lecture for my Developing Professional Practice Module, the focus of this module is to establish ourselves as professional freelance creatives. This lecture outlined the structure of the module and established the medium of our development as a website, blog, digital portfolio and online presence, which will be determined by our engagement with social media.

Whilst I did originally question the idea of social media having a baring on my success as a designer, I have since come to the realisation that having a strong online presence is essential in our modern technology dependent world. Being current on social media will broaden my audience and ultimately open for the opportunity of work and commissions.

In wake of this lecture, I've completed the set-up for my website, Instagram and LinkedIn account as well as my LinkedIn Learning account.

I’ve since went on to research a selection of creatives: prop makers, illustrators and scenic designers. Viewing how they engage with technology for the purpose of furthering their careers, I will be presenting this research next week, I hope that this will assist me in figuring out how I would like to present myself professionally through my website, portfolio and social media.
