Today’s workshop was dedicated to the discussion and practice of reflective writing and critical analysis, the session was led by the academic skills consultant, Catherine Tomlin. There were a number of themes to focus on during the session was to understand critical reflection and to develop the strategies to assist our personal reflective writing.
We started the session by reflecting back on last year when we had our first reflective writing workshop, Tomlin provided a list of our original responses when asked about our biggest concerns and strengths when writing.
In the session we also looked at writing for an online audience and what makes a good blog. This was very useful for me as I am currently working on my online presence using this blog, my website and social media. Some of the key things to remember we're putting the main message you are wanting to get across at the start of blog posts, keep words and images simple as well as to be organised and structured.
Moving forward there are a lot of things I will be taking on from this session. I found it really insightful and feel I was able to expand on my reflective skills. I will remember to balance out my reflective writing with positives and negatives giving an honest reflection on my experience, self question more and also think about how the subject could relate to wider contexts for example political and environmental issues.
