Today we booked in for tutorial sessions with the module leader Adelina Court. I and a couple of my peers' tutorials ran into each other and instead of individual tutorials we ended up having a group session. It was actually really helpful in hearing other thoughts and questions but still within a small setting.
For my Short Film Project I’ve decided to create a 2D animation using Photoshop. Before this tutorial session I wasn’t sure how I was going to create a sophisticated animation with my skill set. As whilst I was aware of Photoshop’s Animating capacities I didn’t have any experience using them and worried I would be better off using another software I hadn’t interacted with before. Fortunately Adelina reassured myself and another of my peers that Photoshop has everything you could ever need to create an animation of your illustrations. She even demonstrated the effectiveness of Photoshop Animation by screen sharing her own work with us.
I hadn’t even imagined creating something with so many layers, colours and lighting changes. We discussed movement of characters and how hard it can be. Adelina suggested considering your shots wisely so you could minimise the leg work involved with lots of full body shots. She also demonstrated how she created movement through a cyclist. This was really interesting as it wasn’t the traditional movement of peddling legs but instead she created the illusion of movement through the progression of the cyclist across the page then combined with the frequently changing colours of the cyclist. A highlighted consideration would be the other possibilities of creating different ways of portraying movement and ultimately the techniques I will utilise within my own animation.
