Wix Website Layout Workshop

Whilst I have already produced a website this workshop has pointed out some flaws to my own work such as the lack of continuity on a few pages and the three clicks rule, which I have previously neglected. The three clicks rule makes navigating your website easy, giving viewers a good experience. If a viewer has to click more than three times to get back to the homepage then your website becomes inefficient. This issue of continuity is apparent as none of my website pages are even the same colour. To produce a ‘visual rhythm’ that will become apart of my branding I have concluded that I need to research and collect inspiration to develop a theme. In order to do this I have chosen to setup a Pinterest board where I will collect images, textures, patterns and colour schemes, as well as references to other websites I would like to be influenced by.

In order to rectify the shortcomings of my website I plan to make adjustments and then set up a tutorial with Steve Oliver to critically review the changes. I will also be undertaking a mock up of how my website should function.

After reviewing my website plan, Oliver suggested I make a point to instil ‘consistent annotations’. Employing his own portfolio as an example he demonstrated that each image should have the same outline of text. Oliver’s portfolio annotations consisted of the title, date, media and size. In the case of my own work I have decided to add a title/project title, date it was completed and a brief description of how it was made.
